The review presents the current understanding of the mechanisms of hypothermia and how to provide emergency medical care. Hypothermia is recognized as one of the most serious pathological conditions of sportsmen. The athletes involved in open water are most exposed to the risk of cooling. The persons who have been subjected to hypothermia need emergency assistance in order to avoid complications. The principles of emergency medical care are largely based on conventional CPR.
